Artist Statement

I approach painting as a way of moving inward. The work is not meant to describe a place, but to hold experience, memory, and feeling.

Over time, this has led me to paint ideas and environments shaped by what remains after events pass. The paintings allow feelings to surface without being directed.

Profile

Jeffrey Malcolm is a Toronto-based Canadian landscape and figurative artist working in oil and mixed media. He holds a BA in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario (1994).

With a career in graphic design and brand consultancy, he shifted his focus to painting as a primary studio practice.

Current Work

Malcolm’s current work is concerned with how empathy is experienced, withheld, and often overlooked in contemporary life. The paintings hope to slow the viewer down, asking what is being missed when attention and care fall away.

The work reflects a sense of impermanence, not only in landscape, but in how we relate to one another. Feeling is central and presented quietly, allowing space for viewers to reflect on their own position within a shared and changing world.
